Design of Suitable Subcarriers in Subcarrier Multiplexing on Multimode Fiber by Genetic Algorithm

Genetic algorithm is adopted in this paper as a technique for searching suitable subcarriers in subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) on multimode fiber (MF). Six suitable subcarriers, which are not located at any nulls in the frequency response of multimode fiber are determined. It is shown that these six subcarriers are at the peak of the passbands of the multimode fiber. These subcarriers are then used as channels for transmitting many subcarrier signals through the high frequency bands of multimode fiber resulting in a total data rate much larger than the data rate that can be achieved from the 3-dB intermodal bandwidth. It is shown that Genetic algorithm is a promising technique for being used in designing SCM MF system.
